Technology isn’t just for electronics – the building industry is constantly innovating to create energy-efficient and low-maintenance products for today’s state-of-the-art homes. From low-maintenance siding and trim products to the newest thinking in home weatherization, here are just a few of the innovations available to builders to make your new home the best it can be:

  • Flooring and Sheathing – Huber AdvanTech and the ZIP System are options that are superior to industry-standard OSB (oriented strand board). AdvanTech flooring has higher strength, stiffness and fastener holding power than OSB which means fewer creaks in your floors. It is also moisture resistant. ZIP System sheathing and roofing are innovative moisture-resistant panels that eliminate the need for house wrap. They are designed to create an energy-efficient barrier to the elements that keeps moisture out and reduces air leakage all while still allowing the panels to dry. Energy-efficiency starts with the materials you choose for the basic structure of your home and Huber’s products provide a significant upgrade to what most builders are using.
Insulation – Sterling Homes uses spray foam insulation in our houses. Spray foam insulation provides the unique benefit of creating an air-tight seal to do away with air leaks which are one of the biggest reasons for high energy bills. The insulation also creates a moisture barrier as it is impermeable to water and is mold-resistant.

  • Siding – New Englanders love the look of wood siding, but not the maintenance. James Hardie has created a low-maintenance alternative – HardiePlank® lap siding. Made of fibercement, it is moisture and rot resistant, pest resistant and fire resistant. And best of all, it looks just like traditional cedar siding. HardiePlank comes pre-painted in a range of beautiful colors with a 15-year warranty on the finish.

  • Exterior Trim – to complement our low-maintenance siding choice, Sterling uses Boral’s TruExterior trim boards to accent the exterior of the home. TruExterior is a product made of 70% recycled material (fly-ash which is a byproduct of coal-combustion) so it’s green. The trim boards are moisture and rot resistant, pest-resistant and are extremely stable in all weather conditions resulting in virtually no movement and splitting.

These are just a few of the innovative products Sterling Homes incorporates in our homes.
